ECIA 2025 Executive Conference: AI, Adaptability, and the Future of Electronics

Our President, Stephen Lagomarsino and Senior Vice President, Melissa Sherman, attended the ECIA 2025 Executive Conference in Chicago, where industry leaders gathered to discuss how AI is transforming technology, business strategy, and human connection. It was an inspiring few days filled with new ideas and meaningful discussions about the role of innovation and humanity in shaping the future. Across the conference, one theme stood out clearly: those who continue to grow, question, and lead will define what comes next.

AI: The Age of Abundant Intelligence

AI expert Zach Kass shared that we are entering an era of “unmetered intelligence.” As the cost of machine reasoning drops, AI will become a critical global resource, enhancing human potential rather than replacing it.

Kass outlined three stages of AI evolution: Enhanced Applications (now), Autonomous Agents (2026–2035), and Natural Language Systems (beyond 2035). He emphasized that qualities like empathy, adaptability, and connection will define success in an AI-powered world.

“AI will require us to be more human than ever,” Kass said.

For us, this reinforced how important it is to remain rooted in our core values. As AI reshapes industries, the companies that will thrive are those that stay human-centered and use technology to empower, not replace, people.

Technology with Purpose

Inventor Dean Kamen reminded attendees that technology is a tool, and its impact depends on how we use it. He encouraged leaders to inspire the next generation of innovators through collaboration and STEM education, not fear of automation.

We couldn’t agree more. At TRC Electronics, we see innovation as an opportunity to serve — to improve how we help engineers solve problems and design for the future.

Economic Resilience and Data-Driven Strategy

Economist Alex Chausovsky projected steady U.S. growth around 2% real GDP, even amid tariffs and inflationary pressures. He encouraged leaders to make decisions based on data, map their supply chains to anticipate risks, and prepare multiple action plans for changing global conditions.

It reinforced the value of staying adaptable and forward-thinking, something we strive for every day at TRC.

Electronics Market Outlook

2025 is being called the year of the tariff, but growth opportunities are emerging. The semiconductor market is up 40% year-over-year, driven by AI demand. Distributors report an average 8.8% gross margin and rising profitability across key components.

These trends show that even in challenging environments, innovation continues to open new doors.

The Human Advantage

Industry leaders including Phil Gallagher of Avnet and Michael Morton of TTI emphasized that emotional intelligence, adaptability, and lifelong learning are now essential for success.

Complexity is your friend,” Gallagher said. “It’s your job to simplify it.

At TRC Electronics, we believe progress is driven by people who think boldly and act with purpose. As technology evolves, our focus remains on empowering engineers, simplifying complexity, and creating lasting relationships that move innovation forward.
