Tariffs Update: Webinar Recap

Thank you to everyone who joined our final TRC Electronics webinar of 2025. Here’s a streamlined recap of what we covered. At the bottom of this page, you’ll find the link to the full YouTube replay.

The Current China Tariff Stack

We began the webinar with the latest update on China tariffs for power supplies.
The current tariff stack is 45 percent, made up of:

  • 25 percent Section 301

  • 10 percent IEPA fentanyl component (recently reduced from 20 percent)

  • 10 percent IEPA reciprocal tariff (extended for another year)

Earlier this year, that middle piece was higher, so some products were imported at a 55 percent tariff. That difference leads into the next point.

Why November 10 Matters

The final stack depends on when a product entered the U.S.:

  • Before Nov 10, 2025: may have been charged at 55 percent

  • On or after Nov 10: now charged at 45 percent

Because TRC uses a Foreign Trade Zone, the tariff rate is locked in on the day product enters our zone. That’s why two lots of the same part can carry different tariff charges. We track each lot and bill the exact tariff paid.

Other Countries And The India Shift

Most global tariffs shown in our country-by-country slide are stable. The exception is India.

  • India looked like a strong alternative to China early this year

  • Then U.S. tariffs on India jumped to around 50 percent

  • Now the U.S. and India are discussing lowering those tariffs again

This volatility is why we remain active in shifting production with our manufacturing partners.

Supreme Court IEPA Case

We reviewed the major legal development: the Supreme Court case challenging the President’s use of IEPA for broad tariffs.

Here’s the quick version:

  • The Court has already heard oral arguments

  • Only the final decision remains

  • A ruling is expected no later than June 2026

Possible outcomes:

  1. IEPA upheld — tariffs continue

  2. IEPA struck down going forward — the administration would need to rely on Section 301/232 instead

  3. IEPA struck down with refund path — importers may eventually apply for refunds on previously paid IEPA tariffs

Until a decision is issued, nothing changes.

What TRC Is Doing For You

During the webinar, we covered four key actions TRC is taking:

  • Billing actual tariffs per lot — never averaging or inflating

  • Repricing open orders that qualify for the new reduced 45 percent rate on China imports

  • Quoting at 45 percent on new China imports

  • Shifting supply to the most stable, lowest-tariff countries available

We also showed how our inventory tariff profile has shifted this year:
Earlier in 2025, 44 percent of our inventory had 0 percent tariff. Today, only 20 percent does.

Quick Note On AI

We ended with a brief look at where AI is heading:

  • Today: prompted AI tools that help with drafting and analysis

  • Next: agentic AI pulling live ERP/CRM data and automating multi step workflows

  • Future: natural-language outcomes where systems perform full processes on your behalf

Even low-cost tools can drive major productivity gains for small and mid-size teams.
